GPR41 is a member of the free fatty acid G protein coupled receptor family and is activated by saturated and unsaturated carboxylic acids with carbon chain lengths equal to or less than six. Expression analysis shows that GPR41 is expressed in adipose tissue and to a lesser amount, in immune cells and elsewhere. GPR41 has been shown to be activated by short-chain fatty acids such as propionate.
