Kv1.8 is expressed in the adrenal gland, kidney, brain, heart and skeletal muscle. It is involved with the regulation of resting membrane potential and modulating the activity of excitable cells. It has also been shown to modulate the activity of the cells in the renal proximal tubule. Research suggests that Kv1.8 may be involved in regulating the tone of renal vascular smooth muscle and may also participate in the cardiac action potential.
