Kv1.3 is widely expressed throughout the CNS and in organs/cells involved with immune system such as spleen, tonsils, T-lymphocytes, B-lymphocytes and macrophages. Kv1.3 is involved in the regulation of the resting membrane potential and calcium signalling in lymphocytes and oligodendrocytes. This ion channel is a target for immunosuppressants and Kv1.3 inhibitors have been proven effective treatment in slowing the progression of multiple sclerosis.
