Neuropeptide Y (NPY) receptors are a family of Gi/o-protein-coupled receptors that are currently dividedinto four subtypes: Y1, Y2, Y4 and Y5. NPY receptors mediate a diverse range of biological actions includingstimulation of food intake, anxiolysis, modulation of circadian rhythm, pain transmission and control ofpituitary hormone release. All four NPY receptor subtypes are found at high concentrations in the brain andcolon and are also found in a wide variety of peripheral tissues at lower levels.
