Nav1.5 is expressed in cardiac myocytes and involved with action potential initiation and conduction. Mutations of Nav1.5 result in QT prolongation and ventricular fibrillation. This ion channel is a target for anti-arrhythmic drugs and the toxic side effects of local anaesthetics.
